Female DJs consist of a long history. Women have always been an important part of the history of music and dance. Many women produced their own tunes and played them during festivals and clubs.


We've seen a significant rise in dialogue about gender equality in dance music over the last decade as many women started entering the male dominated DJ industry. Though female DJs don't always get their due in a patriarchal industry, there's no shortage of women who can hold their own behind the turntables. In our current generation, majority of well-known female DJ would mostly be based in US and Europe. But what we didn’t know was Asian female DJ, specifically Southeast Asian have also been working their way up effectively and consistently in order to leave an impression to the eyes of the world which would make them more compatible with the large amount of competition in the industry. Here are some influential and impactful Southeast Asian female DJ which you can’t afford to be clueless about.


Firstly, Asia Rank No.1 Female DJ, Leng Yein has always been a popular figure in the industry. She is a Malaysia based DJ and model. DJing is where she found her fame and passion, locally and internationally. Besides that, her talent extends to acting hence her supporting role in movies such as Death Rang and The Green Fairy, productions in Hollywood, USA. Yein had also worked with some well-known brands such as Harley Davidson, Sephora and many more. The celebrity also faces judgement and criticism for undergoing numerous plastic surgery on her body, but she doesn’t shy off from her action and even compliment herself as a plastic beauty. She’s well known for being straightforward and unfiltered with her words and thoughts as she says that everyone should be able to voice out their opinion in the current world of concealment. In an article of News Straits Times, she also said that she would like to be remembered as someone strong, will never be told what to do and just live life the way she wants, making her the woman of her own. Due to her impressive achievements and personality, she’s left an unforgettable image of herself to the world.


Other than that, highest paid DJ in Singapore, Jade Rasif is also an impactful female role model. She graduated from the National University of Singapore under degree in Psychology as a full-time student while also acing her job as a DJ in which she specialized in big room, bangers and festival trap. Besides that, Jade is also a model and actress from Mediacorp, one of Singapore’s biggest commercial broadcasting conglomerate. Jade also said that her success as a DJ came 99% from her stint on modelling show, New Face. Aside of the controversy of her being the daughter of one of the most notorious Singaporean, David Rasif who is wanted for using client’s fund for his own gain, she overcome all odds and maestro her profession and study, leaving her at the top of her game in DJing for parties all around the world and being a living proof in which you can chase your dream and career in the same time.


In addition, cross-country hardstyle queen, Wyntella also known as Wynne Tan catches the attention of partygoers. The brightly young DJ is based at Indonesia, who then came to Malaysia to pursue a degree in the culinary arts. The most astounding point is that she raised her music career in less than a year, making her one of the fastest rising female DJ in Southeast Asia. She’s experienced as an open format DJ and plays a mix of EDM and hip-hop focused genres depending on the venues she’s performing at. Currently, she is able to boast a strong weekly line up by performing at different venues around the city and country. She gains a huge amount of audiences due to her spin tracks on classic EDM tunes and track which brought back the hype and attention of past well-known DJ. She also said in an interview that DJ should not be defined through their nationality and passion of different aspect and which everything takes effort and patience to achieve, making her a proud and affluent DJ of both countries.


To summarise, these females has helped make the DJ industry in Southeast Asia more renowned and compatible with the rest of the world. Each of their specialty had made them well-known and recognised in the specific genre of music they play hence the attraction of listeners and party goers who supports them from all around the world. These respected women had also made an impact towards the younger female generation on pursuing their dream of all aspect, given the live specimen that they made it through.
